ShowReel
My showreel contains 3 sequences.
The first sequence depicts a dinosaur-like monster attacking Dunedin, beginning with its appearance on breaking news. The monster initially targets the University of Otago clock tower, where armed aircraft engage in an attack. It then proceeds to the Octagon to continue its rampage. A pedestrian films the monster’s appearance in the Octagon before fleeing towards St. Paul’s Cathedral. Unfortunately, the cathedral also falls victim to the monster’s assault. There, enraged by the relentless military attacks, the monster ascends into the sky and begins preparing for an atomic breath attack. In the final moments, it releases its atomic breath, causing widespread destruction.
The second sequence features an advertisement for Cook Brothers Construction’s gift beer. I collaborated with packaging designer Luka Jakich to create this advertisement, which required a fast-paced, dynamic approach.
To achieve the goal I utilised Cinema 4D, Redshift, LiquiGen, and After Effects.
The slogan design was contributed by Luka Jakich.
The third sequence tells the story of a man who feels sad after seeing a photo of his old golden retriever. To cheer up, he picks up a book about dogs and heads to his beautiful backyard, filled with exotic plants. Sitting down with the book, he begins to read, and as he does, a dog appears as if summoned from his imagination. Filled with joy, he gently pets the dog.
This sequence was designed to highlight invisible VFX. In the first nine shots, I deliberately avoided adding any VFX, aiming to make the final effects feel as realistic and seamless as possible for the audience.
There were four shots that contained VFX. For consistency, I used a similar setup for each shot. I filmed the man against a green screen, then composited him into his backyard scene along with the surrounding flowers and plants.
I used Nuke for keying and compositing.
